It became a critical and commercial failure, after its distributor abruptly dropped its marketing efforts.īaker Dill is a fishing boat captain living a quiet and sheltered life. Serenity was released in the United States on January 25, 2019, by Aviron Pictures. First announced in January 2017, principal photography on the film began on Mauritius that July. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Diane Lane, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong, and follows a fishing boat captain who is approached by his ex-wife to murder her abusive new husband. It’s not a consolation for Firefly’s untimely death, but it’s great for what it is, and it’s a hell of an entertaining film.Serenity is a 2019 American mystery thriller film written, produced and directed by Steven Knight. Joss Whedon joked he only had two hours rather than seven seasons. It has a different tone to the show, but it doesn’t have the time to explore that as deeply as the show explored its world. It’s more like the finale to the missing Season 2 - the characters have grown and changed a bit, but we didn’t get to see that change. It’s also worth pointing out it isn’t the finale to Season 1. So there’s quite a bit of exposition to introduce the characters, but it’s done fairly naturally. The movie had to cater to people who hadn’t watched the show. It really is essential viewing for any Firefly fan. It’s a well-paced and entertaining movie, and a decent ending to the franchise. It’s just a really good movie, full of great moments with the characters, an engaging story, and a fantastic villain. ![]() It somehow works as both a standalone story and as a chance to provide closure to fans of the series. It’s one of my favourite films of all time. But the movie is only looked at on the whole so it’s hard to compare the whole movie to individual episodes. It’s just mostly that one episode can be more of a joke with a little undertone of seriousness (Jaynestown) while another episode can be plenty dark and gritty with minimal humor (Out of Gas) and each one gets viewed kind of separately cause, well, they’re separate. But I think of you really looked at the series and movie as a whole that you’d see that they’re pretty similar in tone overall. I’m not saying anyone is wrong for feeling like it was darker than the show because we tend to focus on the aspects that were darker like actually seeing the Reavers and the final battle. So the stakes are higher, the gut punches are gut punchier, and it culminates in a catharsis that we didn’t get with the series. In that sense, I wouldn’t say it’s darker or grittier than the series, it’s just the climax. Imagine it split over 2 episodes that have been properly built up to. Outside of the first about 10 minutes, though, where they’re introing the characters and world for those new to it, it’s essentially a series finale. Particularly the establishing Serenity scene, the bar scene before River goes haywire, the wave from Inara, rescuing Inara (though they did cut out a little from that, go watch the deleted scenes from it), and all things Mr. ![]() Well actually seeing the Reavers instead of just references is definitely darker than the show got to get to.īut there’s still humor and lightheartedness in the movie. corvuskorax for the wonderful 100K Logo. For the best Jayne Hat in the verse, check out Ma Cobb on Store Envy.Social Networking for Browncoats on Facebook.A comprehensive catalog of Firefly / Serenity comic cover art and variants.List of Every Serenity/Firefly Comic - by /u/TheFerg714 (updated March 2019).Posts and comments may be removed (or not) at the discretion of the moderators.Posts must be directly related to Firefly. You can discuss politics of the Firefly 'verse.
